This website is a record of the life and work of Richard Keith Sprigg - always known as Keith - created by his children Maya and David.

The website contains a set of images taken from glass slides that Keith took in Tibet in 1950. He left Tibet shortly ahead of the People's Liberation Army, and was one of the last Europeans to visit the country before it came under Chinese rule. We have the original slides and high quality scans taken from them. If you wish to use any of the images for academic or commercial use please contact Maya maya.sprigg@gmail.com.

We are keen to expand the site with more information about Keith's life and academic career.

Equally important is our wish to describe the family's links with Tibet through our mother Ray, granddaughter of David Macdonald, the author of "Land of the Lama", available via the link as a free download, and "20 Years in Tibet".

Ray was born in Kalimpong, West Bengal, the daughter of the redoubtable Vicky Williams, who ran the Himalayan Hotel in Kalimong until her death in her 90s. The hotel was until very recently still in family hands, run by David Macdonald's grandson Tim Macdonald and Tim's wife Nilam, who sold it when they retired.
